14 (for December 6)
All these years after the Montreal massacre at L’École Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989, I have written a spoken-word piece about the anniversary of that tragedy and the way it still resonates so profoundly in my own consciousness. Borealis Records has released the track as a single, in time for this December 6, which in Canada is a National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. If you would like a copy, you can download it for free. The piece is part of from the forthcoming album Small Theatres, to be released in February 2007.
If you would like to contact Conservative Heritage Minister Bev Oda to protest the Harper government’s closure of 12 out of 16 Status of Women offices, send her an email firstname.lastname@example.org. Says Ms. Oda, ” We don’t need to seperate the men from the women in this country… this government as a whole is responsible to develop policies and programs that address the needs of both men and women”. Maybe so, Ms. Oda… once women are earning more than 71 cents to every male dollar in this country. Maybe when violence against women is a thing of the past.
