This weekend in Toronto! it’s the best season, beautiful leaves, bright sun, cozy evenings.  Lots going on. A wonderful festival that I’m pleased to be performing as part of: FOOL, where I’ll be premiering a brand new piece that I’ve called “To Live in the Age of Melting”. It takes Stan Roger’s iconic Northwest Passage song as a point of departure for my thoughts about tradition, folk music, colonialism, family, Arctic sovereignty and notions of “discovery”. I’m excited to let this poem out of the house, and see what people think. Couldn’t be more perfect to be presenting something about my own family’s oral tradition at this Festival of Oral Literature!  Check out a fun little video promoting the festival, with me talkin’ about the new piece.    Side note: Hilary Peach will be in town – a west coast spoken word artist who’s work greatly inspires me – check her out several times at the FOOL festival.
Also on Oct 24th, the film using my poem “14 (for Dec 6)” premieres (wow – a crazy day of premieres!) at the Imaginative Film Festival.
I’m reading currently reading a lot of Gertrude Stein, also re-reading Jeanette Winterson’s amazing “Art (Objects)” and getting ready for a month of lots of performance and creation…
