Small Theatres
The new, double CD Small Theatres has now been released on Borealis Records. Check out the fine review in the Toronto Star. The release party on Sunday, February 18th at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto was a sold-out, jam-packed, beautiful night of music and stories and special guests. To order your copy online, go to http://www.borealisrecords.com.
Check out my blog if ya missed the special night and want to know more… Lots of special guests, including Suzie Vinnick, Brad Hart, Anne Lindsay, Burke Carroll, Jenn Gillmor, Joe Phillips, Ken Whiteley, Treasa Levasseur, and more… and lovely photos, taken by the marvellous Greg King ,can be found here.
Says Greg Quill of The Toronto Star: “…Parry has surpassed expectations with this expansive two-CD set…inventive instrumentation and imaginative arrangements enhance the theatrical spark of Parry’s verbal wit, as she builds a complex series of vignettes occupied not just by her own thoughts and preoccupations but also by lively characters, apparently the remnants of real-life encounters, acting out their own perplexing parts. Adventurous stuff.”
Says Robert Everett-Green of The Globe and Mail, in his “Essential Tracks” on Feb 27, about “War Dream” (first track on the record):
“Toronto musician Parry glides between song and speech in this slippery, sinister number about a world turned inside out.”
Found: Dave the Sailor
The good listeners of Sounds Like Canada FOUND Dave the Sailor, and on Friday February 9th, sailor Dave Bellair and I met on the radio! It was such a beauty! He is alive and well in Sault St. Marie, and has remarried the woman he previously divorced. He loved my song – went as far as to say that it was the “highlight of his career”. You can listen to the interview on my MySpace page!
