When I was 16 years old, I crossed the country for the first time: my best friend and I took the train to Vancouver, and we wound up at the Vancouver Folk Festival. I loved every soaking wet minute of that rainy weekend festival, and i remember daydreaming, imagining myself on stage there in Jericho Park, singing and playing a guitar, looking out at the ocean and mountains. I didn’t even know how to play the guitar yet, had never written a song.
Well, this July 13-15, I am in Vancouver again, playing the Festival. And the weather is awesome. Life is an amazing trip. There’s a nice article by Alex Varty about folk music and social change (with an appearance from yours truly) in The Georgia Straight . Excited to see the night time concerts – especially Lucinda Williams, Kanaan, Veda Hille, Dan Mangan, Ani Difranco and Emel Mathlouthi… I’m going to be kept pretty busy myself – in addition to the usual daytime workshops and concerts, I’m doing two shows on the kids stage, performing some of the songs and stories from SPIN for young audiences…but don’t think you shouldn’t come if you’re not a kid -this is a show for all ages. Should be fun! I’m looking forward to all of it. With the mountains and ocean as a backdrop.

great to finally meet you, too, Emmett! those were some good seats for Difranco.
Thanks Nora! So happy to imagine you all singing along to SPIN…
My son is leaving for his swim lesson now and I can hear him and my partner out the window singing “spin, spin, spin…. spin, spin, spin…” We so much enjoyed your show at the folk fest last weekend and are now happily learning more about your other music (I just sent a friend a note about your “bottle this” song. Thank you for making music and courageously and creatively spinning these stories and tunes for others.
